A doctor and musician honoured on Women’s Day
Manipal: Dr. Subhageetha, consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist and an animal activist from Manipal and Mrs. Pavana Acharya, an artiste and musician were felicitated at a function held at the Chaitya Hall in Fortune Inn Valley View here on Wednesday, on the Occasion of International Women’s Day. Avyaya, (meaning the indestructible) was the theme for the day and the programme was jointly hosted by Welcomgroup Graduate School of Hotel Administration, Department of Commerce and School of Communication, Manipal University
The program began with a performance of Baale, an anthem of womanhood, conceptualized by Ms. ShrutiNamboodari, an alumnus of the School of Communication. Mrs. Indira Ballal, an artist and wife of Pro Chancellor Dr H S Ballal, Prof Parvadhavardhini G, Principal of and Dr Padma Rani, Associate Director SOC presented the awards.
Dr. Subhageetha was the Guest of Honour.In her acceptance speech she spoke about the importance of education for everyone. She stated that dowry, desire for a male child and other issues haunt the women in our society today. She called for making a difference in the society by being kind to animals. She urged people to ‘think global and act local’ to change the society for good.
Mrs. Pavana Acharya gave a Panchaveena performance with her team after her felicitation.Dr. Vidya Patwardhan, MrsSethu, MrsVaralakshmi introduced the guests. Ms. Shubha H S proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was followed by cultural performances by students of the three colleges which hosted the event.
