In major crackdown, J&K police arrest 14 people for burning down schools in Valley

schoolfire-1478246385The Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday arrested 14 people in connection with the burning down of schools during the ongoing unrest in the Valley.

According to reports, the crack down comes in the wake of the students gearing up to take the class 10 and 12 exams slated for the second week of November.

It should be noted that at least 25 schools have been burnt since July 9, the day the violence broke out in the Valley following the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani.

No normal class in any school in the Valley has been reported in the last four months due to the turmoil that has left more than 92 people dead and thousands injured.

The burning of schools was prominent in South Kashmir, a stronghold of Islamic political outfit Jamat-e-Islami and current hub of jihadi terror in Kashmir.

Earlier this week, the Centre had told the J&K to ensure security at schools and make efforts to resume studies.
